SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Melvin Earl Brock, who passed away on
4December 28, 2012; and
5 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was born on February 20, 1963, in
6Drew, Mississippi; his parents were James and Mary Alice Brock;
7he married Ina Brock on August 11, 2001; and
8 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was educated in the Mississippi
9public school system; while in school, he played the saxophone,
10ran track, and played football; he later earned associate's
11degrees in communications and electronics and micro computer
12electronics from Belleville Area College; he subsequently
13continued his education and earned his bachelor's degree in
14electronics management from Southern Illinois University at
15Carbondale; and
16 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock served his country as a member of the
17Illinois Army National Guard until his retirement after 21
18years of service; and
19 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was an employee of the East St. Louis
20Casting Company, Boeing, and the Menard Correctional Facility;
21he spent his last 11 years working for the Department of

1Central Management Services in Springfield, where he was
2stationed at the Illinois Department of Health as an IT support
3specialist; and
4 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock devoted all of his free time to his
5sons' activities by coaching and mentoring other young men in
6baseball, football, basketball, and in Boy Scouts as an
7assistant den leader; and
8 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock was preceded in death by his mother;
9and
10 WHEREAS, Melvin Brock is survived by his wife, Ina M.
11Brock; his sons, Anthony Dupree and Melvin D. Brock; his
12father, James Brock; his sisters, Christine (Michael) Schafer,
13JoAnn (Vincent) Cook, and Ella Jean (Troy) Jenkins; his
14brothers, James Brock, Jr., Frankie Brock, Martin Brock, and
15Leroy (Janie) Smith; his grandson, Jason Jevon Dupree; his
16special uncles, Willie E. Thompson and Joe Lee (Diana)
17Thompson, Sr.; and his many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews,
18in-laws, other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
20ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21his family and friends, the passing of Melvin Earl Brock; and
22be it further

1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Melvin Brock as an expression of our
3sympathy.
