| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John A. Farrell of Alton, who passed away | ||||||
4 | on August 26, 2015; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Farrell was born in Edgar County on February | ||||||
6 | 27, 1929 to John E. and Bessie (nee Houston) Farrell; he served | ||||||
7 | in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean | ||||||
8 | War and was discharged in 1952; he graduated from the | ||||||
9 | University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in | ||||||
10 | Accountancy in 1955; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, John Farrell joined the Civil Service for the | ||||||
12 | Internal Revenue Service, working as a Field Agent and later as | ||||||
13 | an Estate Examiner; he attended law school at St. Louis | ||||||
14 | University, earning his Juris Doctor in 1961; he was senior | ||||||
15 | partner at Farrell, Hamilton & Julian, P.C. in Godfrey for 48 | ||||||
16 | years; he was a longstanding member of the Illinois State, | ||||||
17 | Madison County, and Alton-Wood River Bar Associations; his | ||||||
18 | writings appeared in publications related to continuing legal | ||||||
19 | education and estate planning; he retired in 2013; and

20 | WHEREAS, John Farrell was Treasurer of the Fosterburg Fire | ||||||
21 | Department, a member of the Board of Directors for Mid-America | ||||||
22 | Bank of Alton, and an active member of his local community; he |

1 | and his wife were active members of 12th Street Presbyterian | ||||||
2 | Church for 40 years, where he served as an Elder and Treasurer; | ||||||
3 | after the church closed, they became members at Evangelical UCC | ||||||
4 | Church in Godfrey; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, For many years, John Farrell attended a weekly | ||||||
6 | Bible study group; he grew a vegetable garden and stomped | ||||||
7 | through briars to pick blackberries; he sent a weekly mailing | ||||||
8 | of jokes to friends and family and enjoyed writing letters; he | ||||||
9 | was consulted regarding the practice of law and mentored with | ||||||
10 | the SCORE Program; and

11 | WHEREAS, John Farrell was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
12 | his 2 brothers, William and James Farrell; and his | ||||||
13 | granddaughter, Shelby; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, John Farrell is survived by his wife of 56 years, | ||||||
15 | Loretta (nee Richey); his 4 children, Toni K. and Jonathan | ||||||
16 | Farrell-Higgins, Daniel E. and Alejandrina, Michael J. and Joan | ||||||
17 | Farrell, and Jenifer A. and Trevor Farrell-Dreilich; his 10 | ||||||
18 | grandchildren, Elise, Clare, Meredith, Jade, Alexa, Eric, | ||||||
19 | Shane, Ian, Riley, and John; his 2 great-grandchildren, Giana | ||||||
20 | and Eden; his brother, Max Farrell; and his sister, Mary | ||||||
21 | Napolis; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL |

1 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
2 | John A. Farrell, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
3 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
4 | further

5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to the family of John Farrell as an expression of our | ||||||
7 | deepest sympathy.
