2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened |
3 | | to learn of the death of Howard R. Veal Sr., who passed away on |
4 | | June 12, 2024; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Howard Veal, the son of Melvina Tripp, was born |
6 | | in Pocahontas, Mississippi on October 24, 1942; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Howard Veal owned H & J Lawn Service, a business |
8 | | started in partnership with his youngest son, Jason; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Howard Veal was dedicated to serving his |
10 | | community; he led the Springfield Urban League for decades, |
11 | | served on the Illinois Human Rights Commission for several |
12 | | years, and belonged to multiple organizations, including The |
13 | | Frontiers and Rotary International; he was also an active |
14 | | member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Howard Veal was a long-standing member of |
16 | | Springfield's oldest Black church, Zion Missionary Baptist |
17 | | Church, attending and serving in some capacity since 1972; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Howard Veal will be remembered for exemplifying |
19 | | servant leadership within his local community and beyond, |
20 | | serving as a standard bearer for equality, justice, equity, |
