SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joseph "Joe" B. Burns of Rock Island, who
4passed away on June 10, 2020; and
5 WHEREAS, Joe Burns was born to Harold and Irene DeJaeger
6Burns in Moline on March 18, 1941; he graduated from Alleman
7High School and joined the U.S. Navy in 1961; he married Sharon
8McMurray on July 12, 1969; and
9 WHEREAS, Joe Burns worked 18 and a half years at John Deere
10Harvester; he retired in 2009 as co-owner and operator of the
1114th Avenue Waffle Shop in Rock Island; and
12 WHEREAS, Joe Burns belonged to St. Pius X Catholic Church
13and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the
14Garabandal movement; he was very proud of the replica of Noah's
15Ark he built in the 1970s; and
16 WHEREAS, Joe Burns was preceded in death by his parents and
17three siblings, Rosemarie Kennedy, Robert Burns, and Patricia
18Jenning; and
19 WHEREAS, Joe Burns is survived by his wife, Sharon Burns;
20his children, David (Lisa) Burns, Paul (Anna) Burns, Brian

1Burns, Bernadette (Jason) Gustafson, and Anna (Scott) Anders;
2his five grandchildren; his two step-grandchildren; his two
3step-great-grandchildren; his siblings, Ruth Kelley, Father
4John Burns, Teresa Huyten, and Cynthia Jasper; his close
5cousin, MaryAnn Hanavan; and his numerous nieces and nephews;
6therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Joseph "Joe" B. Burns and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Joe Burns as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
