    Whereas, The Girl Scouts organization welcomed girls with disabilities with open arms at a time when they were often excluded from many other activities;

    Whereas, From the seed planted by Juliette Gordon Low and those original 18 girls, Girl Scouting has grown to an organization of 3.2 million Girl Scouts . 2.3 million girl members and 880,000 adult members who work primarily as volunteers;

    Whereas, For 100 years, participation in the Girl Scouts has helped girls "develop their full individual potential, relate to others with increasing understanding, skill, and respect, develop values to guide their actions and provide the foundation for sound decision-making, and contribute to the improvement of society through their abilities, leadership skills, and cooperation with others"; and

    Whereas, The Girl Scouts of the USA have declared 2012 "the Year of the Girl: a celebration of girls, recognition of their leadership potential, and a commitment to creating a coalition of like-minded organizations and individuals in support of balanced leadership in the workplace and in communities across the country"; and

    Whereas, Since 1912, Girl Scouting has influenced the lives of more than 50 million American women who have participated in the organization in their youth: Therefore,
