RESOLUTION
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring the United Ways of
Indiana.
Whereas, Charitable giving and volunteerism are of
incredible value to our state and are strongly endorsed and
encouraged by the Indiana General Assembly;
Whereas, There are 62 local United Way and United Fund
organizations and their partners spanning all corners of
Indiana who have provided services in all 92 counties;
Whereas, Local and state policymakers have served as
volunteers with United Ways and their partner
organizations;
Whereas, Their efforts help to understand community
needs, obtain critical resources, and generate the needed
local results;
Whereas, United Ways assist with the specific needs and
aspirations of their respective communities, including United
Way network goals of long term social changes that produce
healthy, educated, and financially stable individuals and
families;
Whereas, United Ways continue to be a force behind
Indiana's 211 information and referral service, which last
year connected over 500,000 Hoosiers to government,
community, and faith-based services;
Whereas, United Way organizations advocate for lasting change that improves the conditions for all, including our most vulnerable neighbors;
Whereas, Collectively, United Way organizations mobilize
thousands of volunteers each year, strengthening the fiber of
our communities and mobilizing the caring power of people;
and
Whereas, United Way organizations are responsible for
garnering charitable contributions that reinvest nearly
$100,000,000 annually back to the local residents and
communities they serve: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana General Assembly wishes to express
its heartfelt gratitude to the United Way volunteers, donors, staff, and
community partners for their outstanding contributions to the state of
Indiana and their tireless efforts to make Indiana communities stronger
and more viable places to live.
SECTION 2. That the Indiana General Assembly urges Governor
Daniels to declare February 22, 2012, "United Way Day" in Indiana.
SECTION 3. That the Principal Clerk of the House of
Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to the members of the
Board of the Indiana Association of United Way.
