A HOUSE RESOLUTION recognizing Zak Irvin - 2013's
Indiana Mr. Basketball.
Whereas, Hamilton Southeastern High School is the home
of the newest Indiana Mr. Basketball;
Whereas, Six feet seven inch small forward Zak Irvin has
been named by the Indianapolis Star as 2013 Indiana Mr.
Basketball;
Whereas, The University of Michigan recruit received 101
votes from the state's coaches and media for the top individual
honor;
Whereas, With Zak Irvin's selection as Mr. Basketball,
Hamilton Southeastern makes history as the first school with
back-to-back Mr. Basketball recipients since the award was
created in 1939;
Whereas, Zak's basketball career at Hamilton Southeastern
did not begin with him as the star of the varsity team;
Whereas, Zak Irvin was a long and lanky freshman who
Coach Brian Satterfield relegated to the junior varsity team;
Whereas, However, this proved to be a motivational tool
for Zak, who worked diligently to improve his game;
Whereas, While on the varsity team, Zak Irvin scored 1,239
points (18.8 per game) and had 402 rebounds, 164 assists, and
105 steals; and
Whereas, Outstanding athletic accomplishments such as
this deserve special recognition: Therefore,
SECTION 1. That the Indiana House of Representatives congratulates Zak Irvin on his selection as the 2013 Indiana Mr. Basketball and wishes him continued success at the University of Michigan.
SECTION 2. That the Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit a copy of this resolution to Zak Irvin and his family.
