    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION memorialzing Gordon St. Angelo.

    Whereas, Gordon St. Angelo, dedicated philanthropist and pioneer of Indiana school choice, died Tuesday, October 19, 2011 at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital;

    Whereas, Gordon St. Angelo ran the Indianapolis based Milton Friedman and Rose D. Friedman Foundation, now known as the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice;

    Whereas, In 1996, Gordon St. Angelo worked closely with Nobel Laureate Milton and his wife Rose to establish the organization which serves as an advanced system of K-12 education where every parent, regardless of race, origin or family income is free to choose the learning environment that best fits their child;


    Whereas, After serving as President and Chief Executive officer since 1997, St. Angelo became the president Emeritus of the Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice in January 2009;

    Whereas, Gordon St. Angelo also dedicated 25 years to the Lilly Endowment serving as Senior Program Officer of Community Development, and overseeing free-market

economic development in North and South America, as well as other public policy and community development interests;

    Whereas, St. Angelo previously served as the chairman of the board for both the Indianapolis Star's Jefferson Awards and the Civic Theatre. He then went on to serve as a Board Member and Vice President of the Indianapolis Airport Authority;

    Whereas, Gordon St. Angelo is survived by his three sons, Paul, Kurt, and John St. Angelo; and

    Whereas, Gordon St. Angelo was a notable and inspirational figure in Indiana. His dedication and service to the state of Indiana will not be forgotten: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:


    SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly honors the life of Gordon St. Angelo.
    SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Paul St. Angelo, Kurt St. Angelo, and John St. Angelo.
