A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION honoring Alcoa on its 125th
Anniversary.
Whereas, Alcoa's co-founder Charles Martin Hall,
discovered an affordable way to produce aluminum through
electrolysis in 1886 that created the modern aluminum
industry;
Whereas, To commercialize Hall's discovery, the
Pittsburgh Reduction Company was incorporated on October
1, 1888, and later renamed Alcoa;
Whereas, Alcoa's innovative solutions have
revolutionized its markets from aerospace and automotive to
consumer electronics and packaging;
Whereas, Alcoa's leadership in sustainability and
recycling has resulted in recognition as one of the Top Green
Companies by Business Week Magazine and being featured
in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for 10 consecutive
years;
Whereas, Alcoa has partnered with its communities and
invested more than $550 million through the Alcoa
Foundation since it was founded in 1952;
Whereas, Alcoa mines coal, smelts aluminum, and
manufactures products for the aerospace, automotive,
packaging, and printing markets at three locations in
Indiana;
Whereas, Alcoa employs 3,200 Hoosiers with operations
in Lafayette, LaPorte, and Newburgh; and
Whereas,
For 125 years, Alcoa has been a leader in
research, manufacturing, and business, benefitting
communities and creating jobs and opportunities in Indiana
and across the country:
Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana General Assembly honors and
congratulates Alcoa for its 125th Anniversary and commends its
contributions to the State of Indiana.
SECTION 2. The Secretary of the Senate is hereby directed to
transmit copies of this Resolution to the three Alcoa plants located in
Indiana.
