A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Bowman
Academy Eagles for winning the Indiana High School Athletic
Association's Class 2A Boys Basketball State Championship.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Bowman
Academy Eagles for winning the Indiana High School Athletic
Association's Class 2A Boys Basketball State Championship.
Whereas, Bowman Academy has made it to the Class 2A
Championship game two years in a row. After placing second
in the tournament in 2012, the Eagles demonstrated
diligence, dedication, and perseverance in order to win the
title in 2013. They finished the season with an 18-9 record;
Whereas, Bowman Academy's roster includes Seniors
Linden Jackson and Antonio Pipkin, Juniors Anthony Cole,
DeShawn Franklin, Arthur Haggard, Justin King, Tashaun
Lenear, and D'Mario Smith, Sophomores Davon Dillard and
Anthony George, and Freshmen Montrell Barfield and
Derrick Thompson. The coaches include Head Coach Marvin
Rea, and Assistant Coaches James Scott, Kenya Stines, and
Derrick Robinson;
Whereas, Bowman Academy's game plan was to hurry up
and down the court to rally for the win;
Whereas, The Bowman Academy Eagles' front line stayed focused and led the Eagles to victory, despite a valiant
last quarter push by opponents Linton-Stockton to close the
gap to only five points. However, they were not able to
overcome Bowman Academy's sharpshooting and teamwork
skills, making the final score 86-73;
Whereas, Antonio Pipkin played only 11 minutes total,
but scored 12 of Bowman's last 16 points;
Whereas, Four players impressively scored in double
digits, including Davon Dillard with 24 points, Antonio
Pipkin with 16 points, Justin King with 16 points, and Arthur
Haggard with 15 points;
Whereas, The Eagles' bench outscored their opponents'
bench 13 points to 2;
Whereas, Head Coach Marvin Rea has a record of 97-41
in his 7 years at the school
; and
Whereas, Bowman Academy's basketball team promotes
the leadership development sought by the school's namesake,
Thea Bowman, a Mississippi-born, African-American,
Roman Catholic nun who was dedicated to educating citizens
to emerge as leaders in their community: Therefore,
SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates the Bowman
Academy Eagles for winning the Indiana High School Athletic
Association's Class 2A Boys Basketball State Championship.
SECTION 2. That the Secretary of the Senate is hereby
directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the team and
coaches.
