SENATE CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION No. _____

    A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION congratulating the Bowman Academy Eagles for winning the Indiana High School Athletic Association's Class 2A Boys Basketball State Championship.

    Whereas, Bowman Academy is the first team in Indiana history to win championship titles in multiple classes. In 2010, they won the Class 1A championship;

    Whereas, Bowman Academy has made it to the Class 2A Championship game two years in a row. After placing second in the tournament in 2012, the Eagles demonstrated diligence, dedication, and perseverance in order to win the title in 2013. They finished the season with an 18-9 record;

    Whereas, Bowman Academy's roster includes Seniors Linden Jackson and Antonio Pipkin, Juniors Anthony Cole, DeShawn Franklin, Arthur Haggard, Justin King, Tashaun Lenear, and D'Mario Smith, Sophomores Davon Dillard and Anthony George, and Freshmen Montrell Barfield and Derrick Thompson. The coaches include Head Coach Marvin Rea, and Assistant Coaches James Scott, Kenya Stines, and Derrick Robinson;

    Whereas, Bowman Academy's game plan was to hurry up and down the court to rally for the win;

    Whereas, The Bowman Academy Eagles' front line stayed focused and led the Eagles to victory, despite a valiant

last quarter push by opponents Linton-Stockton to close the gap to only five points. However, they were not able to overcome Bowman Academy's sharpshooting and teamwork skills, making the final score 86-73;

    Whereas, Antonio Pipkin played only 11 minutes total, but scored 12 of Bowman's last 16 points;

    Whereas, Four players impressively scored in double digits, including Davon Dillard with 24 points, Antonio Pipkin with 16 points, Justin King with 16 points, and Arthur Haggard with 15 points;

    Whereas, The Eagles' bench outscored their opponents' bench 13 points to 2;

    Whereas, Head Coach Marvin Rea has a record of 97-41 in his 7 years at the school ; and

    Whereas, Bowman Academy's basketball team promotes the leadership development sought by the school's namesake, Thea Bowman, a Mississippi-born, African-American, Roman Catholic nun who was dedicated to educating citizens to emerge as leaders in their community: Therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate     of the General Assembly

of the State of Indiana, the House of Representatives     concurring:

     SECTION 1. The Indiana Senate congratulates the Bowman Academy Eagles for winning the Indiana High School Athletic Association's Class 2A Boys Basketball State Championship.
