An Act relative to membership of the Cosmetology Board of
Registration.
Be
it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court
assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 42 of Chapter 13 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2006 Official Edition, is hereby amended by striking out, in line 2, the word “seven” and inserting in place thereof the following figure:—

SECTION 2: Said section 42 of said chapter 13, as so appearing, is hereby further amended by striking out the second paragraph and inserting in place thereof the following paragraph:—
The governor shall appoint members to the board from among candidates who meet the following qualifications: (a) 5 members who shall be licensed cosmetologists, in compliance with sections 87T to 87KK, inclusive, of chapter 112, one of whom shall own a licensed cosmetology school and have a minimum of a bachelors degree or who has at least 10 years experience in the field, one of whom has attained a minimum of a bachelors degree shall be a type one hairdresser for at least 10 years and who shall be a member of the Massachusetts Cosmetology Association for at least 10 years, one of whom shall be a licensed type one hairdresser and shop owner for at least 10 years, one of whom shall be a licensed vocational educator from the public sector who has taught cosmetology for at least 10 years, and one of whom shall be a licensed aesthetician for at least 10 years; (b) 2 of whom shall be a representative of the general public, one of whom shall be a parent of a cosmetology student, and one of whom shall have no direct affiliation with the practice of cosmetology; and (c) 1 of whom shall be a member from the department of education and 1 of whom shall be a member from the division of apprenticeship training of the department of labor and workforce development.
