SENATE BILL No. 425

 

 

August 20, 2019, Introduced by Senator LUCIDO and referred to the Committee on Government Operations.

 

 

 

     A bill to amend 1917 PA 273, entitled

 

"An act to regulate and license pawnbrokers that conduct business

in this state; to provide for the disposition of allegedly

misappropriated property in the possession of pawnbrokers; to

provide remedies and prescribe penalties; and to provide for the

powers and duties of certain local governmental units and state

agencies,"

 

(MCL 446.201 to 446.219) by adding section 15.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:

 

     Sec. 15. (1) A pawnbroker that receives a pistol for pawn must

 

obtain a pistol sales record from the customer and retain that

 

record for the duration of the loan.

 

     (2) A pawnbroker that acquires title to a pawned pistol under

 

section 10 must file the pistol sales record received under

 

subsection (1) with the Michigan state police.

 

     (3) As used in this section:

 

     (a) "Pistol" means that term as defined in section 1 of 1927

 


PA 372, MCL 28.421.

 

     (b) "Pistol sales record" means a record described in section

 

2a(2) of 1927 PA 372, MCL 28.422a.

 

     Enacting section 1. This amendatory act takes effect 90 days

 

after the date it is enacted into law.

 

     Enacting section 2. This amendatory act does not take effect

 

unless Senate Bill No. 424

 

          of the 100th Legislature is enacted into law.
