1.1A Senate resolution
1.2recognizing the creation of the Taiwan Friendship Caucus in the Minnesota Legislature.
1.3WHEREAS, in 1984, the state of Minnesota established a sister-state relationship with
1.4Taiwan Province, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and Minnesota and Taiwan have subsequently
1.5enjoyed strong bilateral trade, educational and cultural exchanges, and tourism; and
1.6WHEREAS, Co-Chairs Senator Scott J. Newman and Senator John A. Hoffman, along with
1.7Co-Chairs Representative Marion O'Neill and Representative Mohamud Noor, have announced the
1.8creation of the Taiwan Friendship Caucus in the Minnesota Legislature. This newly created
1.9partnership will seek to further expand the important economic, cultural, and political relationship
1.10that Minnesota maintains with the sovereign nation of Taiwan; and
1.11WHEREAS, the Taiwan Friendship Caucus will formally present itself to the Deputy Director
1.12General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of Chicago, Edward Chen, along with the
1.13Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of Chicago, Johnson Chiang, upon
1.14their visit to Minnesota on October 15, 2021; and
1.15NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the State of Minnesota that it
1.16acknowledges the establishment of the Taiwan Friendship Caucus in the Minnesota Legislature.
1.17BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is directed to prepare an
1.18enrolled copy of this resolution, to be authenticated by the Secretary's signature and that of the
1.19Chair of the Senate Rules and Administration Committee, and transmit it to the Taiwan Friendship
1.20Caucus.
