House Bill 305

AN ACT TO ALLOW A VICTIM OF A CRIME TO CHOOSE THE PROSECUTOR OF THE MUNICIPAL, COUNTY OR CIRCUIT COURT OF HIS OR HER CHOICE TO PURSUE PROSECUTION OF THE CRIME IN THE TRIAL FOR WHICH THE PERSON WAS INDICTED; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, a victim of any crime for which a grand jury returns an indictment for such crime, may choose the prosecutor of the municipal, county or circuit court of his or her choice to pursue prosecution of the crime in the trial for which the person was indicted. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2020.
