House Bill 557
AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 97-41-13, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO UPDATE THE MONETARY FINE, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN REVISED FOR INFLATION SINCE 1942, FOR COMMITTING CERTAIN CRIMES OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS; TO INCREASE THAT FINE, FROM A MINIMUM OF $10.00 AND A MAXIMUM OF $100.00, TO A MINIMUM OF $500.00 AND A MAXIMUM OF $5,000.00; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 97-41-13, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
97-41-13. Any person who
shall violate any of Sections 97-41-3 * * * through 97-41-11 or Section 97-27-7
on the subject of cruelty to animals shall, on conviction, be fined not less
than * * * Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) nor more than * * * Five Thousand
Dollars ($5,000.00), or shall be imprisoned in the county jail not less
than ten (10) days nor more than one hundred (100) days, or both.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2015.
