A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PELAHATCHIE HIGH SCHOOL LADY CHIEFS BASKETBALL TEAM AND THEIR COACHES UPON WINNING THE 2014-2015 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Pelahatchie High School Lady Chiefs reign supreme after finishing the 2014-2015 season with a record of 27 wins and 5 losses, and capturing the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this was truly a dream season, as the Lady Chiefs' determination led to its first state championship since 1969 by defeating Ray Brooks and Ingomar High Schools before earning the gold ball on March 13, 2015, by defeating Ashland High School 54-48; and

     WHEREAS, the team was led by Brittany Thompson who was named District Player of the Year; Janae Collier who was named Player of the Game at the State Championship; and Alexis Hobson, Class 1A Scholar Athlete of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Coach Pearlene Fairley, District Coach of the Year, is a dynamic leader whose vision for winning a championship motivated her to form and develop a winning team; and

     WHEREAS, assistant coaches, Kamelia Green and Duncan Tucker, and managers, Elisa Walker, Juleah Boyd and Breanna Ferguson, were pivotal in the development of the Lady Chiefs' execution and strategies this season, and their passion for the team and the city merged with Coach Pearlene Fairley's leadership created an unstoppable dynamic; and

     WHEREAS, the 2014-2015 Lady Chiefs' championship team is composed of the following members:  Aubree Beeman, Kanosha Holifield, Kandis King, Morghan Hobson, Haley Jones, Janae Collier, Taquila Beeman, Brittany Thompson, Alexis Hobson, Courtney McGee, Jamiyah Stokes, April Ticer and Talieeka Mazique; and

      WHEREAS, the members of this team will carry the memories and lessons of hard work, dedication and perseverance learned during this amazing season throughout their lives; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, such as that displayed by the Lady Chiefs Basketball Team, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this group of student athletes and their coaches, who have brought honor to their school, their community and to their state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pelahatchie High School Lady Chiefs Basketball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 1A State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pelahatchie High School, Head Coach Pearlene Fairley, Assistant Coaches Kamelia Green and Duncan Tucker and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
