A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. HILTON HOLLIS UPON HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Hilton Hollis, a leading fashion designer and native of Natchez, Mississippi, is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the fashion industry; and

     WHEREAS, as an artist of fashion, Mr. Hollis received his love and passion of sewing and design from his beloved grandmother, a master quilter; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Hollis, an ambitious and gifted individual, earned a degree in fashion design from New York's Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) in 1999, and notably while at F.I.T., he trained under Tim Gardner from Calvin Klein; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to working with Tim Gardner, Mr. Hollis has worked with several other prominent designers including the following:  Dana Buchman, Ralph Lauren and John Bartlett, which speaks volumes of his talent and notability in the industry; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Hollis, who has always had the desire to be an entrepreneur, launched his own evening wear line called Hilton Hollis, which originated from a flourishing freelance business that he began while still an undergraduate at F.I.T.; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Hollis, upon opening Hilton Hollis just two years after graduating from college, opened his showroom in New York on September 10, 2001, but had to close it the next day on September 11 due to the terrorism attacks; and

     WHEREAS, although his dreams were deferred for a time, Mr. Hollis launched his own company just over seven years ago and his line, which has the contemporary feel, updated classic fit and technical virtuosity, which are all hallmarks of the Hilton Hollis style, continues to provide timeless fashion to the Hilton Hollis customer; and

     WHEREAS, it is a policy of this Legislature, to recognize and commend the excellence of Mississippians such as Mr. Hollis whose accomplishments have made him one of fashion's greatest future icons:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. Hilton Hollis upon his success as a designer in the fashion industry and wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Hilton Hollis and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
