A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND HONORING MISS JULIEANNA JACKSON FOR HER NUMEROUS PAGEANT SUCCESSES AND THE TIME AND ENERGY SHE SELFLESSLY DEDICATES TO VOLUNTEERING AND FUNDRAISING.

     WHEREAS, on June 5, 2016, Julieanna Jackson placed 3rd runner-up as Miss Vicksburg's Outstanding Teen at the Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen Pageant, and she won overall evening gown and onstage question as well as the social media award; and

     WHEREAS, the daughter of Danny and Victoria Jackson and resident of Mize, Mississippi, has already collected $1,500.00 in scholarships, as she was also named Miss Pride of the South's Outstanding Teen on October 30, 2016, and will compete for the title of Miss Mississippi's Outstanding Teen on April 30, 2017; and

     WHEREAS, the effort Julieanna has put forth to fundraise and volunteer for causes that she truly believes in is remarkable, and likely, already surpasses the volunteerism most people contribute throughout their lives, and just a few of the causes that have benefitted from her selfless heart include the Children's Miracle Network, where she raised $1,200.00 and collected 120 thermometers for Blair E. Batson's Children Hospital to be distributed by nurses in the emergency room; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to her contributions toward the Children's Miracle Network, Julieanna created Matchbook, a literacy program designed to help young readers find the perfect book that ignites within them a passion and love for reading, and to supplement the program, she also created a website where children can watch videos of her reading children's books and giving tips to younger readers and a fun survey that helps children find books they would enjoy based on certain likes and dislikes; and

     WHEREAS, Julieanna also volunteers with Reading is Fundamental, which is the largest nonprofit reading organization, by reading at local schools, and she has donated books to all 50 states, donated over 100 books to children here in Mississippi, and volunteered over 200 hours reading to children at local libraries and classrooms, because she truly believes that if she can help one child to read, it will benefit everyone; and

     WHEREAS, Julieanna, who was born on February 19, 2003, is not only a benevolent volunteer but also a successful entrepreneur as the co-owner of a cute, chic online boutique called PolkaDot Pineapple, which is a clothing and accessory boutique for women and children; and

     WHEREAS, even though she is only in the 8th grade at Abeka Homeschool Academy, Julieanna Jackson is a world traveler, but enjoys coming home to Mississippi the most, as she always tell her new friends and others abroad that if a person really wants to experience hospitality, then Mississippi is the place to be; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor fine Mississippians such as Miss Julieanna Jackson, a young woman who exudes poise, class and a tender heart, and serves as an asset and wonderful role model to young girls throughout the great Magnolia State and the nation, with her attitude, determination and professionalism that bring glory and honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and honor Miss Julieanna Jackson for her numerous pageant successes and the selfless time and energy she dedicates to volunteering and fundraising and express deepest wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Julieanna Jackson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
