A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE EXEMPLARY AND DEDICATED SERVICE OF MR. CLYDE BRYANT AS A LONG-STANDING MEMBER OF THE HATTIESBURG PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD AND AS A CIVIC AND SOCIAL ACTIVIST.
WHEREAS, having been born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in 1957, growing up in the eastern portion of the city and graduating with the 1975 class of Hattiesburg High School, Clyde Bryant has been a lifelong student and an advocating proponent for providing Mississippi's children with a quality public education, serving on the Hattiesburg Public School Board as a trustee from June 1, 2002, through June 1, 2009; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bryant, who attended William Carey University on a baseball scholarship, graduated with a bachelor's degree in business education, after which he spent two years in the finance business and seven years in the automobile business before
establishing in 1989, Clyde Bryant Insurance Agency, Inc., an insurance and financial services business; and
WHEREAS, an astute businessman with thriving success, Mr. Bryant celebrated the 20th anniversary of his business, Clyde Bryant Insurance Agency, Inc., on September 1, 2009; and
WHEREAS, equipped with sound knowledge and understanding of the operations of a business and the qualities innate to a successful business, Mr. Bryant's concern for the plight of the state's educable children ignited a flame of social and civic activism to promote the educational growth and attainment in the lives of children in and throughout the Hattiesburg community; and
WHEREAS, with education at the forefront of his agenda to spur his success, Mr. Bryant endeavored to effectuate positive outcomes through his active community service involvement, including serving or having served on the Hattiesburg Public School Board of Trustees, the Area Development Partnership, the United Way of Southeast Mississippi, the Public Education Forum of Mississippi and the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Foundation; and
WHEREAS, additionally, Mr. Bryant has served as Secretary of the Mississippi State Farm Agents and Employees Political Action Committee (MAEPAC), Forrest County Industrial Park Commissioner, past Basileus of the Phi Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and has memberships with Mt. Olive Baptist Church, the National Association of Securities Dealers, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Area Development Partnership, NAACP as a life member and USM Foundation Honor Club; and
WHEREAS, throughout the course of his professional, civic, social and philanthropic involvements, Mr. Bryant has been encouraged, supported and inspired by his family, including his wife, the former Tanya Williams, and their three children, LaToya, Al and C.J.; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge the unselfish resolve of individuals of Mr. Bryant's exceptional caliber, who have committed their time, efforts and resources to improving the future and educational prospective of countless individuals in their communities:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the exemplary and dedicated service of Mr. Clyde Bryant as a long-standing member of the Hattiesburg Public School Board and as a civic and social activist.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Bryant and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
