House Resolution 61

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING STEVEN WILEY JENNINGS OF BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA TROOP 55 UPON HIS RECEIPT OF THE PRESTIGIOUS EAGLE SCOUT AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Steven Wiley Jennings, a member of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 55, of Amory, Mississippi, received the prestigious Eagle Scout Award on February 8, 2010; and

     WHEREAS, through his years of participation in scouting, Steven has earned the required merit badges to fulfill his duties and obligations of maintaining and promoting the mission and vision of the Boy Scouts of America; and

     WHEREAS, he has been faithful to BSA since serving as a Cub Scout, earning a remarkable total of 21 merit badges to date; and

     WHEREAS, as a Boy Scout, Steven has contributed countless hours of community service, earned numerous merit badges, participated on several overnight camping and hiking trips and completed the many BSA requirements in the areas of leadership, first aid, outdoor skills, physical fitness, citizenship and environmental training; and

     WHEREAS, adhering to the Scout Oath and abiding by the Scout Law, he was able to earn the coveted Eagle Scout Award by advancing his knowledge, leadership skills, organizational skills, and community service skills, while gaining support from the community, his peers and his family to complete his Eagle Scout project; and

     WHEREAS, Steven has held the position of Senior Patrol Leader of BSA Troop 55 as well as serving in countless other leadership positions in scouting; and

     WHEREAS, Steven earned the Arrow of Light Award as a Cub Scout, and recently earned the 50 Miler Award as a Boy Scout by hiking a portion of the Ozark Trail and canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas over a period of five days in May 2008; and

     WHEREAS, Steven is a member of the impressive Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society; and

     WHEREAS, his BSA Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project was the installation of informational signs at McAlpine Lake in Amory, Mississippi, and he led members of his troop and the Amory community to hand write and install signs informing the public that the lake is reserved for youth fishing; and

     WHEREAS, Steven's Eagle Scout Award certificate was signed and his board of review was held on Monday, February 8, 2010, exactly 100 years after Mr. W.D. Boyce incorporated the Boy Scouts of America; and

     WHEREAS, showing true Eagle Scout character, Steven is not only a leader for his troop, but he also leads by excelling at Amory High School, where he is currently a senior; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state such as Steven Wiley Jennings, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Steven Wiley Jennings of Boy Scouts of America Troop 55 upon his receipt of the prestigious Eagle Scout Award and express our sincere wishes for success in all of his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Steven Jennings and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
