A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HOLMES COUNTY CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL LADY JAGUARS UPON WINNING THE 2016 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, on March 11, 2016, the Holmes County Central High School Lady Jaguars won the 2016 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Championship, earning themselves a permanent place in the annals of their school's history books as they raised the trophy high above their heads; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars proved their dominance throughout the 2015-2016 season, accumulating a 30-1 record and leaving no doubt in the minds of opponents and onlookers alike as they played excellent team basketball and possessed uncommon talent and skill; and
WHEREAS, outscoring their opponents by 402 points over the course of the season, the Lady Jaguars proved to be a complete team, worthy of greatness; and
WHEREAS, playing in the state championship game, the Lady Jaguars arrived at the Mississippi Coliseum ready to win and make history, leading 13-11 at the start of the second quarter; they never looked back, outscoring the West Harrison Lady Hurricanes by 10 points in the third quarter, and their lead grew to 16 in the fourth quarter, with five Lady Jaguars scoring nine or more points in their championship effort; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Jaguars were led by Head Coach Luana Greer, who not only got the best out of her team, but put them in a position to make history and bring home the championship trophy; and
WHEREAS, the 2016 championship roster includes: Destiny Haymer, Alondria Washington, Valencia Watson, Stardeanna Quinn, Winter Primer, Camry Davis, Alexis Stewart, Nhmia Wilson, Brittany Webster, Aryanna Edwards, Demaya Cobbins and led by Captains Kamelia Lacy, Jalisia Lipsey, Breanna Anderson and Mi'Carria Conway; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Holmes County Central High School Lady Jaguars Basketball Team who have brought honor to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Holmes County Central High School Lady Jaguars Basketball Team upon completing an excellent 30-1 winning season and capturing the 2016 Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A State Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Lady Jaguars Head Coach Luana Greer, Holmes County Central High School Principal Mickey Hudson and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
