Senate Concurrent Resolution 537
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING AND DESIGNATING THE GEOGRAPHIC CENTER OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI LOCATED IN LEAKE COUNTY.
WHEREAS, the limits and boundaries of the State of Mississippi are established under the Constitution of 1890 and the statutes of the State of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, the land area of the State of Mississippi is 46,907 square miles and the geographic center of the state has been determined by surveyors to be in Leake County, Mississippi, 9 miles WNW of Carthage, Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby acknowledge and designate the geographic center of the State of Mississippi to be located in Leake County, Mississippi, 9 miles WNW of Carthage, Mississippi, being longitude: 89 degrees 43.0 minutes West, and latitude: 32 degrees 48.9 minutes North.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution shall be forwarded to the Governor, the Secretary of State for appropriate inclusion in the Mississippi Official and Statistical Register, the Board of Supervisors of Leake County and the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Carthage, Mississippi, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
