A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION MOURNING THE PASSING AND COMMENDING THE CHARITABLE COMMUNITY SERVICE OF VIETNAM VETERAN JERRY GEORGE GOLLOTT OF BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI, AND EXTENDING THE CONDOLENCES OF THE LEGISLATURE TO HIS BEREAVED FAMILY.

     WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we note the passing of Jerry George Gollott (69) of Biloxi, Mississippi, on March 24, 2016; and

     WHEREAS, Jerry Gollott spent four years in the Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam as a B-52 Mechanic.  After the war ended, he returned home and spent 30 years in law enforcement with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks; and

     WHEREAS, Jerry was heavily involved in charitable work and was a 40-year member of the Knights of Columbus, at one point serving as a Grand Knight.  He was instrumental in bringing the Shrimp Bowl back to the Coast; and

     WHEREAS, as a man of faith, he served in the Knights of Columbus, Biloxi Council #1244 for over 40 years through many offices of leadership and was a Past Grand Knight; he also served the Mississippi Coast Radio Control Club for many years as President and was an avid supporter of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Biloxi.  He was an active member of Nativity BVM Cathedral; and

     WHEREAS, Gollott also spent five years helping Tim Bennett, part-owner of the Biloxi Shuckers, bring baseball to the Coast, a mission that finally succeeded with MGM Park opening last year; and

     WHEREAS, he was a real fun-loving guy, always in good spirits, could always make you laugh no matter what the situation.  He was like a father figure; you could always look to him for anything and find comfort; and

     WHEREAS, Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra DeGeorge Gollott; daughters, Mary Beth Gollott Ruff and Denise Gollott Stover (Bill); grandchildren:  Joey Parker, Kyle Stover, Michael Gollott, Laura Stover and Liam Stover; and brother, Pat Foster; and

     WHEREAS, Jerry leaves a legacy of good will and a charitable spirit for all on the Mississippi Gulf Coast who were fortunate enough to know his special giving spirit and sense of humor:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby mourn the passing and commend the charitable community service of Vietnam Veteran Jerry George Gollott of Biloxi, Mississippi, and extend the condolences of the Legislature to his bereaved family.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the surviving family of Jerry Gollott, forwarded to the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
