A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to restore the senior citizen tuition waiver for community college courses and to appropriate funds to implement this act.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 115D‑5(b)(11), as repealed by Section 10.6 of S.L. 2013‑360, is reenacted.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Community Colleges System Office a sum of nine hundred seventy thousand dollars ($970,000) for the 2014‑2015 fiscal year in recurring funds to implement a waiver of tuition at a community college for up to six hours of credit instruction and one course of noncredit instruction per academic semester for a senior citizen age 65 or older who is a resident of North Carolina.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2014, and applies to the waiver of tuition for senior citizens who enroll in community college courses on or after that date.
