A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to clarify the date on which the motor vehicle registration late fee begins to accrue.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 20‑88.03 reads as rewritten:
"§ 20‑88.03. Late fee; motor vehicle registration.
…
(a1) Time for Accrual of Late Fee. – The late fee required under subsection (a) of this section shall begin to accrue on the fifteenth day of the month following the month in which the registration renewal sticker expires pursuant to G.S. 20‑66(g).
…
(d) Grace Period Inapplicable. – The 15‑day
grace period provided in G.S. 20‑66(g) shall not apply to any late
fee assessed under this section.
…."
SECTION 2. This act becomes effective July 1, 2017, and applies to renewals of motor vehicle registrations on or after that date.
