Short Title:        Paying of Overweight Fines by Private Parties.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to allow individuals who are not operating as a business, as a motor carrier, or under the authority of a motor carrier and who owe civil fines for overweight vehicles to make payment arrangements with the secretary of crime control and public safety.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 20‑118 is amended by adding a new subsection to read:

"(l)        The Secretary of Crime Control and Public Safety and the Secretary of Transportation shall allow any person who is not operating a vehicle as a motor carrier or under the authority of a motor carrier to make a payment arrangement for any penalty assessed pursuant to this section in an amount of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) or more. Payment arrangements made pursuant to this section shall not exceed 12 months in duration."

SECTION 2.  This act is effective when it becomes law.
