SYNOPSIS

     Requires DOH to study racial aspects of ovarian cancer.

An Act concerning racial aspects of ovarian cancer.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

      1.  a.  The Commissioner of Health shall conduct a study of the racial aspects of ovarian cancer.  The purpose of the study shall be to 1[determine whether there are differences] evaluate strategies that would mitigate disparities1 in ovarian cancer effects, rates, risk factors, symptoms, and outcomes among women who are members of racial and ethnic groups that shall include but shall not be limited to:  Asian, African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Native American, and Pacific Islander.

      b.   Within one year after the date of enactment of this act, the Commissioner of Health shall prepare and submit to the Governor and, pursuant to section 2 of P.L.1991, c.164 (C.52:14-19.1), to the Legislature, a report containing the study's findings 1and recommendations to address the impact of racial disparities on ovarian cancer rates among racial and ethnic minorities1 .

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire upon the submission of the report pursuant to subsection b. of section 1.
