SYNOPSIS

     Requires correspondence or notice by public entity contain citations of any appropriate statutes, ordinances, or resolutions.

An Act concerning certain notices by State and local government entities and supplementing Title 40 and Title 52 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.  Whenever a State government department or agency, or any office, board, bureau, commission, instrumentality or other State government entity, requests information from a member of the public, or alerts members of the public to a new procedure or requirement, the entity must include in the communication, notice, or correspondence the full citation of any statutes relevant to the information request or the procedure or requirement.

 

     2.  Whenever a municipality or county, or any office, board, bureau, commission, district, instrumentality, or entity thereof, requests information from a member of the public, or alerts members of the public to a new procedure or requirement, the municipal or county government entity must include in the communication, notice, or correspondence the full citation of any statute, ordinance, or resolution relevant to the information request or the procedure or requirement.

 

     3.  This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires State and local government entities to provide the appropriate citations of law on certain correspondence or notices from the public entity to members of the public.

     Under the bill, whenever a State government entity, or a municipality or county, or any office, board, bureau, commission, district, instrumentality, or entity of the municipality or county, requests information from a member of the public, or alerts members of the public to a new procedure or requirement, the State, municipal, or county government entity must include in the communication, notice, or correspondence the full citation of any statute, and in the case of municipal and county entities also a citation of the ordinance or resolution, as appropriate, relevant to the information request or the procedure or requirement.
