Establishes time limit for issuance of warrant for certain motor vehicle violations.

An Act concerning certain motor vehicle violations and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. In the case of a non-moving motor vehicle violation, if the municipal court fails, within three years of the date of the violation to issue a warrant for the defendant's arrest, a warrant shall not be issued thereafter.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill establishes a time limit for the issuance of a warrant for certain motor vehicle violations.
Specifically, under the provisions of this bill, if the municipal court fails within three years of the date of a non-moving motor vehicle violation to issue a warrant for the defendant's arrest, a warrant may not be issued thereafter.
Under current law, there is no time limit for issuing a warrant for the defendant's arrest resulting from a non-moving motor vehicle violation.
