A Concurrent Resolution designating March 2014 as "Professional Social Work Month" in New Jersey.
Whereas, Social work is a career filled with purpose and possibilities, and social workers have the right education and professional experience to guide individuals, families and communities through complex personal and social issues; and
Whereas, Social workers make a wide range of social contributions throughout their careers, and have been the driving force behind many of the important social movements in New Jersey and the United States; and
Whereas, Social workers are dedicated to the successful functioning of American society, believe there are no limits to human potential, and the profession, as a whole, stands up for all people so that everyone has access to the same basic rights, protections, and opportunities; and
Whereas, Social workers in New Jersey are on the frontline of systemic issues that negatively affect the lives of people residing in their communities, responding and helping to ease such personal crises as homelessness, poverty, family break-up, mental and physical illness, domestic violence, substance abuse, and unemployment; and
Whereas, Social workers help the citizens of New Jersey lead more productive and rewarding lives by promoting social action in the community, and are dedicated to assisting their clients on the local level by working in senior centers, schools, hospitals, shelters, and drug rehabilitation facilities, and providing services directly to people in their homes; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey (the Senate concurring):
1. The month of March 2014 is designated "Professional Social Work Month" in the State of New Jersey to raise public awareness about the role professional social workers play in helping New Jersey's citizens lead productive and rewarding lives, and to recognize their commitment and dedication in guiding individuals, families, and communities through complex personal and social issues.
2. The Governor is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon public officials and the citizens of this State to observe the month with appropriate events and activities.
3. A duly authenticated copy of this concurrent resolution signed by the Speaker of the General Assembly and attested by the Clerk of the General Assembly and signed by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary of the Senate, shall be transmitted to the National Association of Social Workers, New Jersey Chapter.
STATEMENT
This concurrent resolution designates March 2014 as "Professional Social Work Month" in New Jersey to raise public awareness about the role professional social workers play in helping New Jersey's citizens lead productive and rewarding lives, and to recognize their commitment and dedication in guiding individuals, families, and communities through complex personal and social issues.
