SYNOPSIS
Designates the second full week in September of each year as "National Truckers Appreciation Week."

A Joint Resolution designating the second full week in September of each year as "National Truckers Appreciation Week."
Whereas, Nearly every aspect of daily life is made possible because truck drivers deliver the goods and resources people need; and
Whereas, Over one million professional men and women employed as drivers bolster the US economy by delivering our goods safely, securely and on time; and
Whereas, Truck drivers play a pivotal role in keeping US highways safe with truckers having an overall crash rate that is 27 percent lower than that of other vehicles; and
Whereas, Truckers deliver roughly 10 billion tons of freight annually, or about 70 percent of all the freight moved in the United States; and
Whereas, The average trucker will drive over 100,000 road miles per year, roughly 40 trips across the United States; and
Whereas, 214,880 trucking industry jobs in New Jersey account for one in 16 jobs in the State; and
Whereas, 22,780 trucking companies located in New Jersey, including small, locally owned businesses transport 313,620 tons per day; and
Whereas, 84.5 percent of New Jersey communities depend exclusively on truckers to move their goods; and
Whereas, This State should continue to highlight the important role it plays in the trucking industry by paying respect and thanking all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs; and
Whereas, It is fitting and proper for the State of New Jersey to designate the second full week in September of each year as "National Truckers Appreciation Week" in New Jersey; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. The second full week of September of each year is designated as "National Truckers Appreciation Week" to pay respect and thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs.
2. The Governor is
respectfully requested to issue a proclamation recognizing "National Truckers
Appreciation Week" in New Jersey, and to call upon public officials and
citizens of this State to observe the day with appropriate activities and
programs.
3. This joint resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This joint resolution designates the second full week of September of each year as "National Truckers Appreciation Week" to pay respect and thank all the professional truck drivers for their hard work and commitment in undertaking one of our economy's most demanding and important jobs. These men and women not only deliver our goods safely, securely, and on time, but they also keep our highways safe.
