An Assembly Resolution calling for a ceasefire in Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank.
Whereas, All human life is precious, and the targeting of civilians, no matter their faith or ethnicity, is a violation of international humanitarian law; and
Whereas, Between October 7 and November 21, 2023, armed violence has claimed the lives of over 1,400 Israelis and 14,000 Palestinians, and wounded thousands more; and
Whereas, This violence is an extension of a decades-long conflict; and
Whereas, This conflict is perpetuating a dangerous and costly lack of access to basic housing needs, compounding this health and humanitarian crisis; and
Whereas, Hundreds of thousands of lives are at imminent risk if a cease-fire is not achieved and humanitarian aid is not delivered without delay; and
Whereas, The federal government holds immense diplomatic power to save Israeli and Palestinian lives; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. This House urges support for facilitating de-escalation and calling for a cease-fire to end the current violence in Israel, Gaza, and the West bank.
2. This House urges support for an immediate release of all hostages and cessation of hostilities toward civilians by all parties in this war.
3. This House urges support for promptly sending and facilitating the entry of humanitarian assistance including food, water, and medical supplies into Gaza.
4. Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Clerk of the General Assembly to the President of the United States and each member of Congress elected from this State.
