SYNOPSIS

     Increases fines for failing to have required markings on commercial vehicles.

An Act concerning markings on certain commercial vehicles and amending R.S.39:4-47. 

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    R.S.39:4-47 is amended to read as follows: 

     1R.S.39:4-47.1  a.   A person violating [this article] 1subsection a. of1 R.S.39:4-46 1[et seq.]1 shall be fined [not more than ten dollars ($10.00).] as follows:

     (1) $250 for a first offense;

     (2) $500 for a second offense; and

     (3) $1,000 for a third or subsequent offense.

     b.    In default of the payment [thereof he] required in subsection a. of this section, the person shall be imprisoned in the county jail for a period not exceeding [ten] 10 days.

     c.     Moneys received from fines under 1R.S.39:4-46 and1 this [article] section shall be accounted for and forwarded to the [director and by him paid over] chief administrator, who shall forward the fines to the State Treasurer, to be used as a fund for the repair of the improved roads throughout the State, regard being had to the repair of the most improved roads and the distribution of the benefits of [this article] R.S.39:4-46 1[et seq.] and this section1 throughout the several counties of the State.

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.
