Designates June 2014 as "Immigrant Heritage Month" in New Jersey.
CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT
As introduced.
A Senate Resolution designating the month of June 2014 as "Immigrant Heritage Month" in New Jersey.
Whereas, Generations of immigrants from every corner of the globe have contributed to the economic, cultural, and societal growth of the United States of America and created the unique character of our great nation; and
Whereas, Immigrants continue to develop businesses, innovate, strengthen the economy, and generate employment for the people of this country and of New Jersey; and
Whereas, Immigrants have provided the United States with unique social and cultural influences, fundamentally enriching the extraordinary character of this nation; and
Whereas, Immigrants have been extraordinary and untiring leaders not only in securing their own rights and access to equal opportunity, but also in campaigning to create a more just and fair society for all Americans; and
Whereas, The State of New Jersey has been an attractive and favorable destination for foreign-born people, and now about one half of New Jersey's immigrants are naturalized citizens of the United States; and
Whereas, Today, nearly 10 percent of the residents of New Jersey designate India as their country of origin, and more than nine percent each designate the Dominican Republic or Mexico as their country of origin; and
Whereas, The list of the top 10 countries of origin for foreign-born persons in New Jersey also includes El Salvador, Ecuador, Colombia, Philippines, China, Italy, and Korea; and
Whereas, Despite innumerable contributions to the economy, culture and society of this country, the role of immigrants in building and enriching our great nation has frequently been overlooked and undervalued throughout history and continuing to the present day; and
Whereas, It is fitting and proper that this House and the people of New Jersey recognize the immigrants among us and their many valuable contributions to the economy, culture, and society of our State and of the United States of America; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

2. A copy of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Speaker of the General Assembly of the New Jersey Legislature, and to the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of this State.
