WRIGHT -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to appointment of election inspectors THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 6 of section 3-400 of the election law, as 2 amended by chapter 340 of the laws of 1995, is amended to read as 3 follows: 4 6. No person shall be certified or act as an election inspector or 5 poll clerk who is not a registered voter and a resident of the county in 6 which he serves, or within the city of New York, of such city, who holds 7 any elective public office, or who is a candidate for any public office 8 to be voted for by the voters of the district in which he is to serve, 9 or the spouse, parent or child of such a candidate, OR WHO HOLDS A PARTY 10 POSITION OR PARTY OFFICE, or who is not able to speak and read the 11 English language and write it legibly. 12 S 2. Subdivision 5 of section 3-401 of the election law, as added by 13 chapter 175 of the laws of 1996, is amended to read as follows: 14 5. No person shall be certified or act as an election coordinator who 15 is not a registered voter and a resident of the county in which he 16 serves, or within the city of New York, of such city, who holds any 17 elective public office, or who is a candidate for any public office to 18 be voted for by the voters of the district in which he is to serve, OR 19 THE SPOUSE, PARENT OR CHILD OF SUCH A CANDIDATE, OR WHO HOLDS A PARTY 20 POSITION OR PARTY OFFICE, or [which] WHO is not able to speak and read 21 the English language and write it legibly. 22 S 3. This act shall take effect on the first of December next succeed- 23 ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
