COOK, SIMON -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the compensation of election inspectors and coordinators The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivisions 1 and 2 of section 3-420 of the election law, 2 as amended by chapter 180 of the laws of 2005, are amended to read as 3 follows: 4 1. Election inspectors, poll clerks, election coordinators and quali- 5 fied voters appointed to act in place of an absent inspector, clerk or 6 coordinator shall be paid for their services on the days of registration 7 and election, by the county containing the election district in which 8 they serve, in an amount fixed by the county legislative body, which 9 shall be no less than three hundred dollars, subject to such limitations 10 as shall be prescribed or authorized by statute, except that in the city 11 of New York the amount of such compensation shall be payable by such 12 city and shall be fixed by the mayor at a daily rate which, in the case 13 of election inspectors shall not be less than [one hundred thirty] three 14 hundred dollars and in the case of election coordinators not less than 15 [two hundred] three hundred fifty dollars. Such inspectors, poll clerks, 16 election coordinators and qualified voters at a general or special 17 village election conducted by the board of elections shall be paid by 18 such village in an amount fixed by the village board of trustees subject 19 to any such limitations. 20 2. An election inspector or poll clerk who attends a required training 21 session shall be paid not less than [twenty-five] fifty dollars for each 22 meeting plus, at the option of the county, transportation expenses not 23 to exceed the mileage allowance approved by the county legislative body 24 for their permanent employees, payable by the county or in the case of EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted. For administrative purposes, each 2 county may establish one or more categories for the mileage allowance, 3 based on the range of distance traveled, and pay the mileage allowance 4 for that category. 5 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
