STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 10544 IN ASSEMBLY May 4, 2018 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. MAGEE -- read once and referred to the Committee on Agriculture AN ACT to authorize and direct the commissioner of agriculture and markets to conduct a "women in farming" study The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The commissioner of agriculture and markets is hereby 2 authorized and directed to conduct a "women in farming" study on women 3 who are farm operators in New York state. Special attention in such 4 study shall be given to: the impediments and barriers to growing exist- 5 ing women-operated farm businesses, the impediments for women seeking to 6 pursue farming careers, the factors contributing to a growing number of 7 women choosing to become farm operators and any recommendations for 8 legislation and administrative programs to support and encourage women 9 farmers. 10 § 2. Within one year of the effective date of this act the commission- 11 er of agriculture and markets shall deliver a report of his or her find- 12 ings and recommendations, including proposed legislation to the gover- 13 nor, the temporary president of the senate and the speaker of the 14 assembly. The report shall describe with particularity how any recommen- 15 dations for legislation and administrative programs to support and 16 encourage women farmers made by the study can be implemented in New York 17 state. 18 § 3.
