STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 10683 IN ASSEMBLY August 28, 2024 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Jacobson) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to payment of election inspectors The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Subdivisions 1 and 2 of section 3-420 of the election law, 2 as amended by chapter 180 of the laws of 2005, are amended to read as 3 follows: 4 1. Election inspectors, poll clerks, election coordinators and quali- 5 fied voters appointed to act in place of an absent inspector, clerk or 6 coordinator shall be paid for their services on the days of registration 7 and election, by the county containing the election district in which 8 they serve, in an amount fixed by the county legislative body, subject 9 to such limitations as shall be prescribed or authorized by statute, 10 except that in the city of New York the amount of such compensation 11 shall be payable by such city and shall be fixed by the mayor at a daily 12 rate which, in the case of election inspectors shall not be less than 13 one hundred thirty dollars and in the case of election coordinators not 14 less than two hundred dollars. Such inspectors, poll clerks, election 15 coordinators and qualified voters at a general or special village 16 election conducted by the board of elections shall be paid by such 17 village in an amount fixed by the village board of trustees subject to 18 any such limitations. All election inspectors shall be paid within 19 forty-five days of the election in which such election inspectors 20 worked. 21 2. An election inspector or poll clerk who attends a required training 22 session shall be paid not less than twenty-five dollars for each meeting 23 plus, at the option of the county, transportation expenses not to exceed 24 the mileage allowance approved by the county legislative body for their 25 permanent employees, payable by the county or in the case of the city of 26 New York, by such city. For administrative purposes, each county may 27 establish one or more categories for the mileage allowance, based on the 28 range of distance traveled, and pay the mileage allowance for that cate- EXPLANATION--Matter in italics (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [] is old law to be omitted.
