Assembly Resolution No. 84

        MOURNING  the death of Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr.,
        renowned  firefighter,  distinguished  citizen   and
        devoted member of his community

  WHEREAS, It is with feelings of deepest regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr., an extraordinary
man  of indomitable faith and dedication whose purposeful life will long
serve as a standard to which others might aspire; and

  WHEREAS, Donald P. "Bubba" Schmidtmann,  Jr.  of  Tribes  Hill,  New
York, died on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the age of 64; and

  WHEREAS,  A  lifelong  area resident, Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr. was
born on January 9, 1954, in Amsterdam, New York, to the late  Donald  P.
Schmidtmann Sr. and Jeanne M. Corsette Schmidtmann; he was a graduate of
the  former  Wilbur  H.  Lynch  High  School and was employed locally by
Coleco Industries; and

  WHEREAS, Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr. and the former Julie A. Bottisti
were united in marriage on April 7, 1979, enjoying nearly  40  years  as
husband and wife; and

  WHEREAS,   With   a  steadfast  and  unwavering  commitment  to  his
community, Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr.  was  a  member  of  the  Southern
Adirondack Dog Club where he served on the Board of Directors; and

  WHEREAS,  This  extraordinary  man  was  a member of the Tribes Hill
Volunteer Fire Department for 37 years, during which time  he  valiantly
served as Assistant Chief and President; and

  WHEREAS,  Well  respected  by  those  serving  alongside  him and by
neighboring departments, Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr. will  be  remembered
as  a  leader,  a mentor and a hero; he truly exemplified the meaning of
sacrifice, and his faithfulness and allegiance will never be  forgotten;
and

  WHEREAS,  Predeceased  by  three brothers, Chris, David and Jeffrey;
and a sister-in-law, Michele, Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr. is survived  by
his  wife,  Julie;  a  son, Gregory; three grandchildren, Amie, Aron and
Skylar;  three  great-grandchildren,  Lola,  Patricia  and  Jack;   four
brothers,  Michael  (Maureen),  Timothy  (Maria),  Thomas  (Marcia)  and
William; one aunt,  Debra;  one  uncle,  David;  sister-in-law,  Marilyn
(Michael); two brothers-in-law, Bill (Tammy) and Nick (Kelly); a special
friend, Ralph; and his brothers and sisters in Fire Service; and

  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a  comforting  memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Donald P.  Schmidtmann,  Jr.,  renowned  firefighter,

distinguished  citizen  and  devoted  member of his community; and be it
further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Donald P. Schmidtmann, Jr.
