THIELE, ENGLEBRIGHT, SALADINO -- read once and referred to the Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to authorizing a no fare program for transportation on the Long Island Rail Road for police officers employed by the towns of Suffolk THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Subdivision 14 of section 1266 of the public authorities 2 law, as added by chapter 307 of the laws of 1995, is amended to read as 3 follows: 4 14. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law or the terms of any 5 contract, the authority, in consultation with the Long Island Rail Road, 6 shall establish and implement a no fare program for transportation on 7 the Long Island Rail Road for police officers employed by the city of 8 New York, county of Nassau, Nassau county villages and cities, county of 9 Suffolk, Suffolk county villages AND TOWNS, the division of state 10 police, the port authority of New York and New Jersey, the Metro-North 11 Commuter Railroad Company, the New York city housing authority and the 12 New York city transit authority. In establishing such program, which has 13 as its goal increased protection and improved safety for its commuters, 14 the authority and the Long Island Rail Road shall, among other things, 15 consider: (a) requiring police officers who ride without cost to regis- 16 ter with the Long Island Rail Road as a condition of riding without 17 cost; (b) requiring such officers to indicate during such registration 18 process their regular working hours and the Long Island Rail Road trains 19 that such officers expect to ride; and (c) periodically re-registering EXPLANATION--Matter in ITALICS (underscored) is new; matter in brackets [ ] is old law to be omitted. The authority and the Long Island Rail 2 Road shall also have the power to consider other matters necessary to 3 carry out the goals and objectives of this section. 4 S 2.
