Bill Title: Permits the commissioner of motor vehicles to require any licensed driver to submit to an examination or reexamination prior to his or her normal renewal date upon receipt of a recommendation from a court having jurisdiction of traffic offenses, or the governor or chief magistrate of a state or territory stating that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle safely is questionable.

HARCKHAM -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Transportation -- commit- tee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recom- mitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to reexamina- tion of licensees The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 506 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 6 to read as follows: 3 6. The commissioner may require any licensed driver to submit to an 4 examination or reexamination prior to his or her normal renewal date 5 upon receipt of a recommendation from a court having jurisdiction of 6 traffic offenses, or the governor or chief magistrate of a state or 7 territory stating that the driver's ability to operate a motor vehicle 8 safely is questionable. In reviewing such licensed driver's qualifica- 9 tions to operate a motor vehicle, the commissioner shall only consider 10 the previous ten years of the licensed driver's driving record. 11 § 2.
