A RESOLUTION

 

1Recognizing the month of March 2013 as "National Nutrition
2Month" in Pennsylvania.

3WHEREAS, National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education
4and information campaign created by the American Dietetic
5Association (ADA) focusing attention on the importance of making
6informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical
7activity habits; and

8WHEREAS, Initiated in March 1973 as a week-long event,
9National Nutrition Week became a month-long observance in 1980
10in response to growing public interest in nutrition; and

11WHEREAS, The American Dietetic Association has more than
1268,000 members; and

13WHEREAS, ADA is the world's largest organization of food and
14nutrition professionals; and

15WHEREAS, The majority of ADA's members are registered

1dietitians and dietetic technicians; and

2WHEREAS, Food sustains life and the type, quality and amount
3of food that individuals consume each day play a vital role in
4their overall health and physical fitness; and

5WHEREAS, Eating right and staying fit are important no matter
6what age a person is; and

7WHEREAS, There is a need for continuing nutrition education
8and a broad effort to enhance good eating practices; therefore
9be it

10RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
11month of March 2013 as "National Nutrition Month" in
12Pennsylvania as sponsored by the American Dietetic Association;
13and be it further

14RESOLVED, That all citizens are encouraged to join the
15campaign for good nutrition and to become concerned about their
16nutrition and the nutrition of others in the hope of achieving
17optimum health for today and tomorrow.
