| A RESOLUTION |
| |
1 | Recognizing June 10, 2009, as "Patient Advocate Day" in |
2 | Pennsylvania. |
3 | WHEREAS, Access to appropriate health care when disease |
4 | strikes is essential to well-being for all individuals; and |
5 | WHEREAS, A patient diagnosed with a serious illness should be |
6 | able to access medical treatment and survive the financial |
7 | hardship of illness; and |
8 | WHEREAS, A patient who receives a serious diagnosis should be |
9 | able to have relevant clinical information, timely and sustained |
10 | health care and intervention and the opportunity to effectively |
11 | reach well-informed and independent decisions; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Health information technology, including the |
13 | utilization of electronic medical records, can provide both the |
14 | patient and his physician with timely access to necessary |
15 | information; and |
16 | WHEREAS, The continued, comprehensive, cooperative and |
17 | collaborative action of government, private industry, health |

1 | care providers, volunteers and citizens can help overcome the |
2 | obstacles to the complexities of the health care system during a |
3 | serious illness; therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize June 10, 2009, as |
5 | "Patient Advocate Day" in Pennsylvania. |
