A RESOLUTION

Designating February 2009 as "Boy Scout Month" in Pennsylvania,

2

and commending this outstanding organization for youth upon

3

its 99th anniversary.

4

WHEREAS, Cub Scouts is a year-round program designed for boys

5

seven through ten years of age involving their parents, leaders

6

and community organizations working together to achieve the

7

purposes of Cub Scouting; and

8

WHEREAS, Boy Scouts is a year-round program for boys 11

9

through 17 years of age through which adolescent young men can

10

achieve core objectives of strengthening character, personal

11

fitness and good citizenship; and

12

WHEREAS, Venturing is a program offered by Boy Scouts of

13

America to young men and women 14 through 20 years of age in

14

order to help them to prepare to become responsible and caring

15

adults; and

16

WHEREAS, Boy Scouting programs, Cub Scouting through

17

Venturing, offer youth a comprehensive and unique 12-year

leadership development program that prepares them to lead their

2

family, workplace, community and country with skill and

3

integrity; and

4

WHEREAS, Boy Scouting programs strengthen families, provide

5

youth with caring mentors, inspire civic pride and compassion

6

through service to others and build self-confidence through

7

achievement and recognition; therefore be it

8

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate February 2009 as "Boy

9

Scout Month" in Pennsylvania, and commend this outstanding

10

organization for youth upon its 99th anniversary.
