TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-1810 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO DRIVING ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF ROADWAYS, TO PROVIDE THAT A PERSON WHO VIOLATES THIS SECTION MAY BE FINED UP TO TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR EACH VIOLATION, AND TO PROVIDE THAT ONLY WARNING TICKETS MAY BE ISSUED FOR A VIOLATION FOR A PERIOD OF NINETY DAYS AFTER THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 56-5-1810 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"(d) In addition to the penalties provided in Section 56-5-6190, a person who violates this section may be fined up to two hundred dollars for each violation.
(e) The department shall erect appropriate signs along the State's interstate highways that provide notice to operators of motor vehicles of the provisions contained in this section."
SECTION 2. For a period of ninety days after the effective date of this act, only warning tickets may be issued for a violation of the provisions of Section 56-5-1810.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
