A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE BRIDGE ALONG CLEVELAND STREET IN THE TOWN OF ELLOREE "DAVID EARLE POLIN BRIDGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, Mr. David Earle Polin was born on June 6, 1928, in the Lone Star Community and is the son of the late George William and Jessie Wertz Polin; and

Whereas, he is a 1950 graduate of Elloree High School, and faithfully defended his country for three years as a member of the United States Air Force; and

Whereas, Mr. Polin married Betty June McGee on June 23, 1957, and together they have three wonderful daughters; and

Whereas, for thirty-eight years (1967-1992) he owned and operated Polin's Grocery Store in Elloree and took pride in selling the "best meats in town"; and

Whereas, since 1993, Mr. Polin has operated a successful upholstery business in Elloree; and

Whereas, he is a member of First Baptist Church of Elloree, and has served as a deacon for approximately twenty-five years; and

Whereas, he served as a member of the local volunteer fire department for fifty-five years, and still serves as the fire department's treasurer and served as a water commissioner for the Town of Elloree for eleven years; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to recognize the important business, civic, and public service accomplishments of this son of the Palmetto State by having a bridge in the Town of Elloree named in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge along Cleveland Street in the Town of Elloree "David Earle Polin Bridge" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this bridge that contain this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
