A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the composition of the board of trustees of the |
|
|
Employees Retirement System of Texas. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 815.003, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (b-1) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(b) Subject to Subsection (b-1), to [To] be eligible to |
|
|
serve as an elected member of the board, a person must be: |
|
|
(1) a member of the retirement system and must hold a |
|
|
position that: |
|
|
(A) [(1)] is included in the employee class of |
|
|
membership; and |
|
|
(B) [(2)] is not with an agency or department |
|
|
with which another trustee holds a position; or |
|
|
(2) a retiree. |
|
|
(b-1) Only one elected member of the board may be a retiree. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act apply only to |
|
|
an election of a member of the board of trustees of the Employees |
|
|
Retirement System of Texas that occurs on or after the effective |
|
|
date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2017. |
