A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to placement on the minimum salary schedule and service |
|
|
credit in the Teacher Retirement System of Texas for certain public |
|
|
school career or technology education teachers. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 21.403(b), Education Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
(b) For each year of work experience required for |
|
|
certification in a career or technological field, up to a maximum of |
|
|
five [two] years, a certified career or technology education |
|
|
teacher is entitled to salary step credit as if the work experience |
|
|
were teaching experience. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 823.404(a), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) An eligible member may establish equivalent membership |
|
|
service credit for up to a maximum of five [one or two] years of work |
|
|
experience for which the member is entitled to salary step credit |
|
|
under Section 21.403(b), Education Code. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2025-2026 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2025. |
