A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the operation of and license plates for private buses. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 504.503, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 504.503. MUNICIPAL, MOTOR, AND PRIVATE BUSES. (a) The |
|
|
department shall issue without charge specialty license plates for: |
|
|
(1) municipal buses; |
|
|
(2) [,] motor buses; [,] and |
|
|
(3) private buses that are designed to transport 16 or |
|
|
more passengers, including the driver. |
|
|
(b) The license plates must include the words "City Bus," |
|
|
"Motor Bus," or "Private Bus," as appropriate. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter B, Chapter 522, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 522.016 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 522.016. PRIVATE BUS OPERATORS. (a) In this section, |
|
|
"private bus" has the meaning assigned by Section 502.001. |
|
|
(b) A person who operates a private bus is not required to |
|
|
hold a commercial driver's license unless the private bus is |
|
|
designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2013. |
